“For I am the Lord, I change not.”
Malachi 3:6
When prayer feels dry, answers seem delayed, or hardship continues, we can mistakenly interpret our circumstances as evidence that God’s posture toward us has changed. In this teaching, Prophetess Sherryann Hernandez reveals why God must be understood through His unchanging nature rather than our fluctuating emotions, teaching us to remain steady when our feelings are not.
“If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.”
Why difficult circumstances do not necessarily mean God’s posture toward you has changed.
How emotions can cause us to misinterpret God’s silence, delay, or apparent distance.
Why God’s faithfulness is rooted in His unchanging nature rather than our emotional state.
How remembering God’s past faithfulness can help you remain steady in difficult seasons.
When life becomes uncomfortable, we can begin interpreting God according to what we feel. Silence feels like distance, delay feels like disappointment, and hardship feels like rejection. But emotions describe our present experience; they do not define God’s character or determine His posture toward us.
God declares, “I am the Lord, I change not.” His character does not fluctuate when circumstances change, nor is His faithfulness governed by emotional instability. Understanding His consistency allows us to stop treating every difficult season as evidence that something has suddenly changed in God.
God’s faithfulness flows from His nature, not from our emotional state. When our feelings become unsettled, we can look back and remember seasons when we felt uncertain yet later discovered that God had remained faithful. Our emotions may move, but His character remains steady.
Father, teach me to know You according to Your character and not interpret You through the instability of my emotions. When prayer feels quiet, answers seem delayed, or circumstances become difficult, keep me from assuming that Your posture toward me has changed. Remind me of the times You remained faithful even when I could not understand what You were doing. Anchor my heart in the truth that You do not change. Give me spiritual maturity to distinguish between what I feel and what Your Word reveals about who You are. May my confidence rest in Your faithfulness, not in my circumstances. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
